VOTE FOR STEPHEN COCHRANE ON NOVEMBER 8th!

My wife, Aimee, and I have enjoyed living in our community for 12 years and we have two children, Christopher (3rd grade) and Nicholas (Kindergarten) who attend Sage Canyon Elementary School.  I have young children who will be in this district for many years to come so I have a vested interest in this role, both personally and professionally.

Aimee and I have been active school volunteers in our children’s classroom and we are both on the Executive PTA Board at Sage Canyon. Additionally, I served as a DMUSD’s representative to the North Coastal Consortium for Special Education (NCCSE).

I am running for the school board, because I have a unique level of expertise in Pre-K - 12 Education derived from over 20 years experience as a Teacher Education professor, university administrator, teacher, and academic researcher.

Currently, I’m a Teacher Education professor and the System-wide Director of Teacher Education at Alliant International University, leading their Elementary, Secondary, and Special Education teacher credential programs, as well as their Master of Arts in Education degree program.

I have a Ph.D. in Education, M.A. in Special Education, and five California teaching credentials/ certificate, as well as three certificates from Cornell University in Education Management for Business, Leadership, and Finance. I also hold a School Administrative credential.  Having trained over 1500 local teachers, I am in the classroom on a regular basis and understand teachers because I am one.  I also stay abreast on research on educational trends for the future and am well versed in ways to implement educational technology into the classroom to further enhance student learning and outcomes.

Additionally, I’ve been on the Board of Directors to four non-profit corporations, as well as on the California State Education Advisory Board.  I also served as Treasurer for 2 years on my Homeowner's Association (HOA).  I have significant business, finance, and leadership background as a result.

I am at a point in my career where I want to give back to the community.  I love working with teachers and I love making a difference in the lives of children.  I want to help assist our children to be critical thinkers who will be ready for the workforce in the 21st century, as well as to help nurture kindness, empathy, and creativity in them too.

I believe in doing the right thing, in colloboration and transparency, in team work, and in listening.  These are effective traits for any board member to have and if elected, I believe that my added expertise and understanding of education will help me to do my very best to serve the community, teachers, and children well.

The two people whom I am running against have NO BACKGROUND in education.  While they are both quality people, they offer similar skill sets and do not have the extensive expertise in education that I do.  I believe a school board should have representatives on it that UNDERSTAND SCHOOLS because they WORK IN SCHOOLS and WORK CLOSELY WITH TEACHERS.  Of the candidates in this election, only I can provide this unique perspective and over 20 years of SOLID EDUCATION experience at all levels.  Remember, my opponents were appointed by the current board.  They were not elected by YOU.  Our kids deserve the very best and by voting for me, you can be assured that I will make it a priority to provide them with continued TOP NOTCH teachers, safe and technogically up-to-date classrooms, and an educational future that will help them be best prepared for higher education and future jobs in the 21st century.  As a board member, I will work colloboratively and cohesively with the team to continue with effective governance, as well as transparency and open dialogue with the community.
